This statue of Thomas Becket (1119-1170) was made by Edward Bainbridge Copnall, acquired by the Corporation of London and installed in its current location in 1973. Becket was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 until his murder in 1170. Known as Saint Thomas of Canterbury and Thomas of London, he was made saint and martyr by both the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion.
