This monumental bronze sculpture by the British artist Barbara Hepworth was commissioned by the Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Foundation as a memorial to the UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld (1905-1961) after his death in an air crash in Africa. A second cast of the sculpture was made in 1963 and bought by London County Council for 6,000 guineas and installed at Battersea Park in 1964
